Hola amigos!
Everybody wants to go to South American continent as it is quite a popular destination these days, and Colombia is one of the most amazing countries there. Five hours plane ride to the south of North America lies Colombia and it is not just famous for Shakira and Pablo Escobar, it is also famous for its spectacular cacao, coffee and hand-made accessories. Make sure to buy loads of it for you and your friends as souvenirs.
I was quite excited for this trip, to explore the country, culture, people, and food, since I had never been to South America, so it was an all together a new experience. We went to Cartagena last Fall for four days, it is officially called “The Miami of Colombia” and we also spent a day in Bogota.
Fish ceviches for me were my favorite food there. In Cartagena, we stayed inside the walled city in a small casa (castle). Walled city is an old town with a lot of charm and the most beautiful part is the colorful artisitc houses next to each other.
Attractions: Castillo San Felipe de Barajas (Fort), Walk in the old city, Convento La Popa de la Galera (View point and Church), Iglesia de San Pedro Claver (Cathedral), and Plaza de los Coches (square) are major points of interests. Rosario beach is not the closest, but beautiful to visit. If you have time make sure you do Tyrona National Park, we couldn’t do it because of lack of time.
Must try restaurants: La Cevicheria, La Mulata
Weather: It was pleasant summer time during the end of August-early September.
What to wear? Summery comfortable clothes like sun dresses, shorts and airy light clothes are best to wear here. Flip flops are ideal to wear. Make sure to carry a bug spray, you will need it for sure to prevent yourself from Zika virus.
Your itinerary is ready, what are we waiting for? Pack your bags and fly to south America.
Adios!
