Belgium, the land where Tin Tin and Captain were born. This is another favorite country of mine, where local people are super friendly and happy. Dutch, flemish, french and somewhat english are their main languages. Beer is their most famous alcoholic beverage and they have literally thousand types of Belgian beers.
I and a couple of my friends planned a 4-day trip to the city of Brussels and Bruges together in July of 2016. Weather is mostly rainy here in July, it almost rained every single day, but that didn’t ruin our spirits of exploring the city. I wish I could have stayed a little longer and explored Ghent and Antwerp too, but I am surely going back with my husband someday. Brussels is a mix of modern and historical european city and is more metropolitan, however Bruges is very much like Brussels with an addition of canals and lots of old city charm.
I also made sure NOT to miss the famous Belgian frites, waffles and chocolate.
Do not go to any random chocolate boutique and compromise on the taste, only go to the best like Neuhaus, Godiva, Galler, Marcolini.
{One fun fact: If you are vegetarian, you should know that frites are cooked in beef fat}
Must see attractions in Brussels: Grand Place, Town hall, Mannekin piss (little smaller than you expect), Atomium, Basilica of sacred heart, Cathedral of St. Michael and St. Gudula, Palace of Justice, Royal Palace of Brussels, Mont des arts, Comic Museum and comic strip walk.
Restaurants in Brussels: Le restaurant du mim (food and views were great), Feux de bengale (my Indian vegetarian friend took me there and the food was beyond my expectations), Maison Dandoy for waffles (I think it was over rated), Fritland (YES,YES and YES, best frites and dips)
Must see attractions in Bruges: Markt, Basilica of Holy blood, Church of our Lady Bruges, Canal boat tour is a must, Walk in the city and Explore it.
What to wear: Comfortable clothes and shoes are very much required. Pack a light quilted jacket and an umbrella as weather is very unpredictable and gets cold after rains.
